Foundation Cracks & Cracks Throughout House
In the first 2-3 years after your house has been built, it is normal to see some cracks in the foundation or in the walls of your home. These should be small and shouldn’t continue to grow and become larger. F the crack remains smaller than 1/16th of an inch wide, it is normal settling. Once it has gotten bigger than that, you have something to worry about.
Sinking Foundation
If you go outside and see that one portion of your foundation is sinking down further in the ground than the other side, it could be due to a buckling foundation. Foundation Upheaval
Think about the opposite of a sinking foundation and you will have a good indication of what foundation upheaval is. When the ground is pushing portions of your foundation up higher than another, this is what is happening. This can lead too foundation repair if you notice things like cracks in tile or brick, buckling floors, sticking windows and doors.
Sticking Doors & Windows
If you experience a door or window that is all of a sudden sticking, it is important that you get to the bottom of the cause. Sometimes, you can see that there is an alignment issue that needs to be fixed. In the summertime, it is normal for higher humidity levels to cause doors and windows to stick more than normal. If you can’t open and close doors because the alignment is off, it could be due to a foundation issue that needs to be addressed.
Countertop Cracks
The countertops in your kitchens or bathrooms should be cracking all of a sudden. They shouldn’t be pulling away from your walls either.
